# Problem with logstash as a service (RHEL)

I have a problem with logstash that I don't understand. It works fine with command but as a service it doesn't work.
I have placed my configuration file in /etc/logstash/conf.d/test.conf
I have checked the permission and it's ok. I have also checked the logstash log in /var/logstash but there is nothing. I have a logstash-plain.log file but the latest message is from july 5.

One culprit may be the `logstash.yml` file. If the entries are not correct, _and properly indented from the far left,_ Logstash will not start properly.
[This thread](https://discuss.elastic.co/t/cannot-run-logstash-as-a-service-with-active-pipeline/98244/7?u=theuntergeek) describes exactly this problem, and it solved things for that user.
