# Procedure/process for up-gradation of kibana from 5.0 to 5.4

As i would like to upgrade my kibana 5.0 to 5.4, could you please help me in knowing the procedure or process for it.
As uninstall and re-install will be easy but the data (visualizers, dashboards and scripted fields) which were created in 5.0 will be lost when re-install to 5.4 happens.
so overcome this can you please let me know the procedure so that upgradation should happen without any data loss.

Hi @kiranilla,
the upgrade procedures within major versions of the Elastic stack are quite straightforward. They are described in the respective documentation for each product:

- [Elasticsearch upgrade](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/rolling-upgrades.html)
Since Kibana stores its saved objects (visualizations, dashboards, etc...) inside Elasticsearch, it will not lose data as long as the Elasticsearch upgrade is performed in a way that avoids data loss. Please consult the documentation linked above for step-by-step instructions.
