# Read only indices FORBIDDEN

Hi,  
I have a cluster in version 6.2.4, with 300 data nodes.

I start getting an exception says that my index is in read only.  
I get this when I try to index documents, but only after a while, at first it works well.

I change it manualy through the put setting API, but it still gets this error.

It also takes place at the same time on multiple indices.

Exception - "blocked by:[forbidden/12/index read-only/allow delete (api)]"

What could be the reason for this?

Are you by any chance running low on disk space and have exceeded [the flood stage watermark](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/6.5/disk-allocator.html) on some of the nodes?

I check the disk space, but i dont exceeded the flood stage watermark on any of them.
