# Reading .gz files with Filebeat

My path to filebeat is /var/log/apache2

there are gz files like access.log.2016.06.12.gz

will filebeat harvest them?

No, Filebeat does not harvest gzipped files. There has been some talk about the feature but it hasn't been implemented. [https://github.com/elastic/beats/issues/637](https://github.com/elastic/beats/issues/637)
