# Regarding Cluster State

Hi,
Can I ask, is there a metric which tell me the size of the cluster state? And how long it takes to be updated? And if there isn't, how might I go about measuring that?

I don't believe there is.
Why are you interested in measuring it?

Because we have performance issues and I want to determine:
- whether size/frequency of cluster updates is an issue
- whether cluster updates are being delayed and for how long
Our clusters are not over-committed with indices/shards. The issues are mainly disk related and I want to gather extra evidence to illustrate the knock-on effects.

Your logs should show cluster state updates and the timing of those.
