Maybe my memory is foggy but I thought that the 'reload\_search\_analyzers'-command only reloads the synonyms file (when the 'updateable'-field is set to true) and not other files (like stop\_words and stemmer\_override).

We also have a stemmer\_override file and today after I applied 'reload\_search\_analyzers' I noticed that new overrides are now applied at search time.

I did the following. Updated the stemmer\_override file with "dummydummy =\> dummy" and then did the following:

```auto
    GET product/_analyze
    {
      "analyzer": "full_text_search_analyzer",
      "text": "dummydummy",
      "explain": true
    }
    {
      "name" : "custom_stems",
      "tokens" : [
        {
          "token" : "dummydummy",
          "start_offset" : 0,
          "end_offset" : 10,
          "type" : "word",
          "position" : 0,
          "bytes" : "[64 75 6d 6d 79 64 75 6d 6d 79]",
          "keyword" : false,
          "positionLength" : 1,
          "termFrequency" : 1
        }
      ]
    }
```

after POST product/\_reload\_search\_analyzers {} I get this:

```auto
    {
      "name" : "custom_stems",
      "tokens" : [
        {
          "token" : "dummy",
          "start_offset" : 0,
          "end_offset" : 10,
          "type" : "word",
          "position" : 0,
          "bytes" : "[64 75 6d 6d 79]",
          "keyword" : true,
          "positionLength" : 1,
          "termFrequency" : 1
        }
      ]
    }
```

[Reload search analyzers API | Elasticsearch Reference [7.10] | Elastic](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/indices-reload-analyzers.html) mentions only the synonyms file.

Am I remember incorrectly, or did I find a bug?

We are on Elasticsearch version 7.9.0.

The API will Reloads an index’s search analyzers and their resources
So all ressources used within the analyzer will be loaded, including

- synonym files
- custom\_stemming
