# Removal of official Freenode IRC channels

Folks,  
If you've been around the Elastic Stack for a few years, you likely would have come across our IRC channels that used to exist on Freenode. Unfortunately, the Freenode admins recently deleted all auth and channel databases, effectively destroying many years of interactions and users, including the long lived #elasticsearch channel.

Due to this, we will no longer have IRC channels on Freenode, and our community chat channels will exist on Slack. You can join us via **[http://ela.st/slack](http://ela.st/slack)**!
