If you are runninga recent version you can not, as described in [this section of the docs](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/7.17/snapshot-restore.html#other-backup-methods). Restoring from a filesystem snapshot MAY work for older versions, but has as far as I recall never been officially supported.

Welcome to our community! 😃

No, you need to use [snapshot](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/8.0/snapshot-restore.html) to take an app level backup.

Thank you, We have take the backup using snapshot but while restoring the deleted index getting below error.

[backup\_repo:test-snapshot-2022.02.11-kxyy8jd4sumangv5kozy3q/9uLE7UaUQamgAH9pYbKAAA] cannot restore index [.siem-signals-default-000001] because an open index with same name already exists in the cluster. Either close or delete the existing index or restore the index under a different name by providing a rename pattern and replacement name
