# Restoring snapshots of observability indexes

I have a snapshot profile created with defaults, which, for observability indexes, results in one snapshot per index, so I have about 100 snapshots from the same minute, each containing one index. If I want to use these snapshots to restore the indexes in a fresh instance of Elasticsearch, how do I do it? Do I have to generate 100 separate restore commands?

Yeah you do need to restore each snapshot directly, you can't use wildcards.
It might be worth updating your policy to take the snapshots together.
