# Retrieve password from keystore key

We have different keystore keys for elasticsearch , logstash , kibana and filebeat and all the processes read passwords from their key. Is there a way to retrieve password from that key in linux prompt or through any APIs.

I can answer for the elasticsearch keystore, that you _cannot_ (by design) retrieve the value stored there outside of Elasticsearch.

Incase I forget the password , can I retrieve it from the keystore by any means .
