# Search\_as\_you\_type highlight issue

Continuing the discussion from [Search\_as\_you\_type and highlight](https://discuss.elastic.co/t/search-as-you-type-and-highlight/253010/2):

"It will only highlight matching tokens — if you leave out the space after fox, it won't mark that."

why does this happen and how can i use a search\_as\_you\_type but highlight both terms on the query without including the space at the end.
