# Searchable snapshots xpack feature or available in oss distribution as well?

Hi,  
I am looking at upgrading to **elasticsearch-oss** 7.10.2 and noticed that searchable snapshots is introduced as a beta feature in 7.10 (Ref - [searchable-snapshots](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/7.10/searchable-snapshots.html))  
This page does not have an X-Pack label, however the links to the REST APIs for searchable snapshots ( [searchable-snapshots-apis](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/7.x/searchable-snapshots-apis.html)) are marked X-Pack.

- Can you pls clarify if this feature is available for use in the oss distribution?
- If only the APIs are under X-pack, then how else could we enable & use the feature in oss (without the x-pack APIs)?

It is not.

It is only part of the default distribution and [requires an Enterprise license](https://www.elastic.co/subscriptions).
