# Setting a base path for s3 repositories in the Elasticsearch user settings

Is there some way to set a repository base path for s3 in an Elasticsearch deployment's user settings? I'm getting bootloop errors when we try that though setting `repositories.s3.base_path` in the user settings - ([Repository Settings | Elasticsearch Plugins and Integrations [7.9] | Elastic](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/plugins/7.9/repository-s3-repository.html))

That looks like a docs bug to me, `repositories.s3.base_path` was removed in 6.0. I'll open a PR to fix it.

Well, that explains it. But there aren't any other setting exposed for us to set a default base path? I know we can handle this through Kibana in 7.x, but it'd be extremely helpful to be able to handle this as part of the Elasticsearch deployment.

No, the base path is a property of each repository.
