# Sharding and index settings

The 3 Node Elasticsearch we have set up currently has a 6TB index set into 16 P and 1 R shards and is slow to respond to queries. If we want to create an index from scratch that will reach a similar volume in the new version, what do you recommend we pay attention to?
In addition, for the new structure, I first plan to split the indexes into phases using datastream.

Which version of Elasticsearch are you using?
Is your data immutable?

current version 6.3 but new version will be 8.10. Yes data is immutable
