# Shorten URL permissions?

How can I allow my read-only users to use the "shorten URL" feature when sharing?

I don't want my users to be able to modify the dashboards, but they need to shorten the URLs because they are way too long.

Hello @lamp123432

Unfortunately the creation of shortened URLs relies on the ability create kibana saved object documents in elasticsearch which isn't possible for read only users. I recommend using a 3rd party service. There are browser plugins to make this more accessible while working. I hope this helps address your problem.
