hi,
I would like to know if you have any suggestion regarding the possibility to simulate a disaster event after which I should use snapshot recovery.
I mean, is there a way to simulate the last part (restore operation) and to get the time required.

thanks

If you want to test on same server then restore your snapshot with different name and you will know if it worked or not

Check restore section where it says how to restore index as another name.

[https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/modules-snapshots.html](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/modules-snapshots.html)

last week I setup another cluster (three node) new hardware.
stop all ingestion.
did the backup

move all backup to new servers
restore it and I had all the data back online in less then hour.
