I do see that for upgrade from 7.14 to 8.0 requires upgrading first to 7.17 version then to 8.0 to have the compatibility of the indices.

Is this applicable for "Snapshot and restore" as well, where 7.14 cluster (Remote Cluster) needs to be upgraded first to 7.17 version, then to migrate the index to the newly built 8.0 cluster? or 7.14 version snapshot can be directly restored into the 8.0 cluster?

Take a look at [Snapshot and restore | Elasticsearch Guide [8.0] | Elastic](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/8.0/snapshot-restore.html#snapshot-restore-version-compatibility) for the definitive answer there.

TLDR yes you can restore from 7.14 to 8.3.
