# Snmptrap input adding dots to field names

The snmptrap input plugin for logstash is adding dots to field names. This is preventing entries from being indexed in elastic.. I understand I can use the de\_dot filter, but since that's expensive - I was hoping there might be a way to just name the fields correctly at the point of collection?

`MapperParsingException[Field name [SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0] cannot contain '.']`

Wanted to add that I'm using Windows.
