# Specify field you want to sort by in asc or desc order

Is it possible to specify the column you wish to sort by in the search field under the Kibana Discover page?
I'd like to specify the column to sort in the query rather than having to click in the column manually.

Unfortunately, you can't specify the sort order in the query. All functionality is based on Lucene query language: [https://lucene.apache.org/core/2\_9\_4/queryparsersyntax.html](https://lucene.apache.org/core/2_9_4/queryparsersyntax.html)
