# "The shutdown process appears to be stalled due to busy or blocked plugins"

I've set up a testing VM with a full ELK stack. Often I see this error in the Logstash logs:

```
[2018-06-07T15:34:34,248][ERROR][logstash.shutdownwatcher] The shutdown process appears to be stalled due to busy or blocked plugins. Check the logs for more information.

```

- What does this error mean and how to fix it?
- What are its effects? Elasticsearch appears to run fine, even if index creation is a bit slow.
- It says "Check the logs for more information", but which logs?

I've searched around but could not find any relevant answer. Thanks in advance if you can shed some light on it.

Look earlier in the logstash logs to see if there are additional errors.

There isn't any, that's why I'm asking. Sometimes this error appears in the logs without any apparent reason.
