# Thresholds for Search Latency & What to do when Search Latency is high

**Hello everyone!**
Recently we are trying to develop a monitor for **Search Latency** in Elasticsearch. (The same as the Stack Monitoring chart) I researched optimum threshold values for Search Latency but couldn't find any document. When the Search Latency reaches the threshold we want to alert but we don't know the **threshold** value.
If you excuse me I have a couple of questions about it:
- Can you please inform me about Search Latency thresholds?
- How can we say our Search Latency is high or normal or fast? Which value range defines that?
- What to do when Search Latency is high?
- What actions should we take when Search Latency is high?

No need for thresholds anymore, we set it to 10s. My remaining question is:
**What actions should we take when Search Latency is high?**

Figure out why, look at hot threads as a start. Look at resource utilisation for your nodes.
