# Time spent by span type emtpy

**Elasticsearch version** : 7.5.0

**APM Server version** : 7.5.0

**APM Agent language and version** : Ruby/elastic-apm 3.1.0

**Browser version** : Chrome

**Original install method (e.g. download page, yum, deb, from source, etc.) and version**: Elastic Cloud

**Fresh install or upgraded from other version?** Upgraded

**Is there anything special in your setup?** I don't think so, sample rate is set to 0.01, transaction spans set to 5000  
**Description of the problem including expected versus actual behavior. Please include screenshots (if relevant)**:  
Time spent by span type graph is completely empty, despite the fact that I can view sample traces, and those spans have type and subtype values that look reasonable

Hi @aleksclark, welcome to the forum!

The Ruby agent added support for producing the data ("breakdown metrics") that power these graphs in [v3.2.0](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/apm/agent/ruby/current/release-notes-3.x.html#release-notes-3.2.0). There have been a number of enhancements and bug fixes since – I would recommend upgrading to the latest.
