# Timelion and year on year calculations

Hi, i'm new to Kibana, and looking to do some year on year trends using timelion. However I can't find any info on how to go about this. For example I want to track 'this year purchases' vs. last year purchases', and then put a yoy trend line on a different axis. Is this, or something similar possible?

Hello Lisa,

It sounds like you'd want a 1-year offset to compare this year vs. last year's purchases. Tim Roes wrote a pretty fantastic blog article on how to use Timelion [here](https://www.elastic.co/blog/timelion-tutorial-from-zero-to-hero) which includes instructions on using offsets. You should then be able to use the trend function (also covered in the blog) to plot a trend on a second y-axis.
