Hello Elastic Team,

I have a problem with setting up a Timelion visualization for periodic events that occur rarely. When the time window is too short and no data points fall in it, a red error is displayed. You can see the details in the screenshots attached.
Here's how I'm trying to add elements and what the output is:

1. Empty visualization is shown, which is what I expected

2. I added a split, no visualization is shown (not what I expected, but this doesn't bug me that much)

3. I added .sum() and I see errors.

In my use-case no data is a perfectly normal situation, especially if a short time window is chosen (like "Last 15 minutes") and these errors make it impossible to include such a visualization in my Dashboard. I'm using Kibana 6.3.2. Is it a bug? Is there a workaround? I'm good with showing an empty chart, no chart or a constant line at 0 level.

Best regards
Ewelina

hi @Ewelina_Zielinska,

This looks like a bug. I would go and log this here: [https://github.com/elastic/kibana/issues/new](https://github.com/elastic/kibana/issues/new)
