# Unexpected Rule Failure

Hello,

I created a Elasticsearch Query Rule awhile back about 8 months ago. This rule appeared to be working as expected until recently it was brought to my attention that it stopped working.

I checked the alert and it said 'Failure' and had this:

> execution failed - Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'getUuid')

I resolved it oddly by just removing a recipient. Perhaps it needed to be updated.

My question is what does this error mean? How can I prevent from failures occurring or detect failures across all spaces?

Elasticsearch/Kibana: 8.14.1

Hi @erikg,

I think this may have to user roles according [to this older forum post on the subject.](https://discuss.elastic.co/t/error-cannot-read-properties-of-undefined-reading-includes/303696/3) So my guess here is that you removed a user who did not have the proper role.

I think your right, but I might need to create a support ticket.

Today another different unrelated rule, kept failing and then succeeding with the same issue:
