# Upgradation of elastic version

Hi all,

I'm having ES version 7.10

Now i want to upgrade to 8.6 version.

So one way of upgradation, is to take snapshot, delete old version (7.10) and install new version (8.6) and then restore snapshot.

Is there a more easy way where instead of uninstalling the old version, Can we upgrade the from existing version to newer version ?

Something like :

apt update Elasticsearch 8.6.0

Any idea?

Hi @Sandeep_Raju,

For an upgrade from 7.10 we recommend upgrading to 7.17 first and then using the upgrade assistant to upgrade to 8.6:

I would recommend taking a snapshot before you start. Do read the preparation guidelines carefully too:

Getting from 7.10 to 7.17 can be done using a rolling upgrade using apt install:
