# Upgrade elasticsearch 8.4.10 to 8.14.3

Hello.

I have a local installation of Elastic Search and Kibana, both version 8.4.10.

What is the correct procedure to upgrade to version 8.14.3? Without losing the cluster, index settings, i.e. keeping the settings by only updating the version?

I looked on the website but only found upgrades to old versions...

The documentation is [here](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elastic-stack/8.14/upgrading-elastic-stack.html#prepare-to-upgrade-8x).

Basically you check every release notes from 8.4.10 until 8.14.3 to see if it will impact you or not.

Is there any command to upgrade from version 8.4 to 8.14 while keeping all configuration files?

Or is the only option to install version 8.14 over the top using, for example, the installation package via apt-get? And if possible to keep the configuration files?

If you installed using the `deb` package you just update the package to the desired version.

Updating packages does not overwrite the configurations, it only changes the binaries.
