# Upgrade from 5.5 to 7.8 and check on basic/apache vs opensource/elasticsearch license which one to use

Hi, we are planning to upgrade from ES 5.5 to 7.8 using delete and snapshot method and I see that in 7.8 we have two license(Basic,apache and open/elasticsearch). I wanted to know the difference between both the licenses and if we can ship the elasticsearch license to our customers. Currently we use apache license where we have our SSL plugin but would want to try elastic search license option.
