Hi. I am in the process to upgrade my kibana and Elasticsearch from 7.9 to 8.7. I installed 7.17 but did not back up the data from version 7.9. What shall I do now? Someone, please guide. ---

Hi @Kumar_Abhinav, Welcome to the community! Just a couple of questions to figure out where you are. Are you following the [upgrade guide](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elastic-stack/8.7/upgrading-elastic-stack.html#prepare-to-upgrade)? Is your data available in the upgraded 7.17 cluster? Or is it available in a snapshot? If your data is available in the upgrades Elasticsearch instance would recommend taking a snapshot and then using the [upgrade assistant as per these steps](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elastic-stack/8.7/upgrading-elastic-stack.html#prepare-to-upgrade). Hi, No, my data is not available in upgraded 7.17 clusters or snapshots. I tried a lot to make the instance or clusters. ---

How did you upgrade? Did you follow the upgrade guide? Or did you destroy and recreate the cluster. ---

It was very tough to upgarde from 7.17 to 8.7.. me and my team put three days into this.. but no success. so i set up a new 8.5 .. ---
