# Using G1C1 with Java 1.8.0\_191

We only support G1GC with Java11 on Elasticsearch 6.5 and above. It is worth reading [this thread](https://discuss.elastic.co/t/where-can-i-find-info-on-the-status-of-g1gc-in-lucene-and-es/149526) on the topic and what it takes for us to declare something as supported as well as [this blog post](https://www.elastic.co/blog/a-heap-of-trouble).
