# Using Watcher in basic version of the license

Hi there
I'm very new to the elastic stack and at present, I am on the basic license and I want to use the watcher.
After going through the documents it looks like I cannot use the watcher in basic license version. If not, how do I switch onto the trial mode? So as to check whether or not it suffices my needs which would, later on, help me make my decision to obtain a premium license!
Please, can you help? Thanks in advance!

You need indeed a gold/platinum license or a trial for 30 days.

Just open Kibana and go to license management to activate the trial.
