Is it possible to create a role that can simulate a watch without the ability to save it?
From digging around I came across "manage\_watcher" role, but that is not granular enough for what I want.

The reason is that I want to give my users to test watches on prod but I don't want them to be able to save watches (we want an admin process to create watches)

I don't believe so - there is the [execute watch API](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/watcher-api-execute-watch.html), but that needs `manage_watcher`.

I wonder if you could create a simple test cluster and use [Cross Cluster Search](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/modules-cross-cluster-search.html) to access the data from that cluster. This way you could have your prod data available to a sort of sandbox cluster.
