# What is the different between feature and endpoint in elasticsearch?

What is the different between feature and endpoint in elasticsearch?

I have try with

`GET my_index/_mappings`

or

`GET my_index/_mapping`

and both return same result

Looking at the source code of [`RestGetMappingAction`](https://github.com/elastic/elasticsearch/blob/dcf57f296e8f691e8099ea57ce011c41061e79c8/core/src/main/java/org/elasticsearch/rest/action/admin/indices/RestGetMappingAction.java#L65-L66), they are merely synonyms and handled the same way.

I think both are still there for backward compatibility's sake.
