Hi all,

I am setting up the RBAC for users in my self-managed Elastic stack. I see there is an option in Kibana Privileges - Management, that is **Setup Guides**.

I am unable to find the document explaining it.

- **What is this privilege?**

- **What is it used for?**

If anyone has a link to official docs or has hands-on experience with Setup Guides in a RBAC context, I’d appreciate your insights.

Thanks in advance!

Hello @josh_tran

Welcome to the Community!!

Could you please share the Kibana version?

Please find below link for the documentation if it can be helpful :

> **[Kibana role management | Kibana Guide \[8.19\] | Elastic](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/8.19/kibana-role-management.html)**

> **[Manage users and access to App Search | App Search documentation \[8.19\] |...](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/app-search/current/security-and-users.html)**

Thanks!!

I am using Elastic Stack 9.0.4. The **Setup Guides** feature is in the Management section when I configure Kibana privileges. I can't find this feature in the search bar at all.

Sorry, but I don’t see any information about that feature in the above 2 docs you shared. Btw, I am not using App Search.

I'm assuming that _Setup Guides_ is related to the Setup Guides configuration in detection rules.

For example, the built-in rules _Google Workspace Custom Admin Role Created_ has this as a _Setup Guide_

But I was not able to find anything about this in the documentation, unfortunately after the documentation changed on version 9.X it is extremely confusing to find anything.

Hi @leandrojmp ,

Wdym by the detection rules? Do you mean the Rules settings for the Alert? Could you share where I can find that feature?

If you are really mean, it was Rules settings, it seems to be a licensed feature. Because in the free edition, we are unable to set up connectors to third parties. Am I right?

Btw, do you have any idea about the Shared Images feature in the previous picture? I also can not find any documentation about it. ☹

It is Security Detection Rules, you can find it in the Security App:

These are not the same thing as the Rules option you have in the Alerts part in the Stack Management.

No, Detection Rules work with the Basic license, but to be able to create some connectors you need a paid license.

I have no Idea what _Shared Images_ means, unfortunately the documentation about Kibana permissions is pretty limited and it is really confusing to know what each thing allows or not, it is up to Elastic to answer this and improve the documentation explaining what each item is.

I suggest that you open an issue on the Kibana repository so they can know that this is a problem.

Thank you so much for all the detailed answers.

I completely agree with you. We are lacking documentation on Kibana privileges.

I only find it odd that when I search this forum or Google, I don’t see anyone asking about them. It seems people aren’t interested in permission granting through the built-in features like Kibana privileges. 😅

I think this would be a good idea to try.

Update:

> Btw, do you have any idea about the Shared Images feature in the previous picture? I also can not find any documentation about it. ☹

Okay, after playing around with this feature. I can say this feature is for all images that we upload, and Kibana stores them on its server itself (I have not found the location yet).

The READ privilege allows users to:

- See stored images in Kibana UI (e.g, in the image panel of the dashboard)
- Use/Attach stored images in other objects, such as Image panels

The ALL privilege adds uploading image permission to the user.

NONE means the user cannot see stored images in Kibana UI at all. For example, image panels in the Dashboard will display `Image not found` error label instead of its image.
