# Which security index do I keep?

which .security index does the elastic stack use in 6.5?  
I have some that may be old legacy ones. Is there a way to see which is the main one?  
for example, I have .security-6 and .security

If .security is the main one, can I delete .security-6 without issue?

The simple answer is just don't mess with it.  
It's all handled internally and you don't need to do any maintenance on it.

The longer answer is that `.security` is an alias to `.security-6`. If you remove either of them you will break security.
