# Why only 5 phases for Index Lifecycle Management?

Basically what the subject says. Why only 5 phases for ILM?

I'm experimenting with some things and was just wanting to use more so I could be aggressive with down sampling.

I want to start with every metrics every 10s, down sample to 30s the next day, then to 60s, 180s, 300s, etc.

Currently I can only down sample when I change to warm, and once more when I change to cold.
