# Why there are always x.x.1 and x.x.2 under a minor version

Hi, there,
I'm curious about the release plan of Elasticsearch, it seems that there are always two version under a minor version, is it a convention or something? 🤣

Patch releases happen as needed so there's no guarantee or convention on how many there might be for any given minor series. You're right that quite often there are two, but that's certainly not always true: there was no 7.12.2, but there was a 7.13.4, and the 6.8 series is up to 6.8.22.
