# X-pack basic license duration

Hi,
I want to use X-pack basic license just for **monitoring** and I was wondering what will the process of renewing it after a year. Will it still be free?
> Basic Version License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, the availability of such a License for the applicable Software and any applicable limitation on the number of Nodes, and in consideration of the Registration of Your use the Software, Elastic agrees to grant, and does hereby grant to You, for a period of one (1) year from the date of Registration, a License to use the Eligible Features and Functions of the Software that are applicable to the Basic Version of the Software. The foregoing license may be renewed annually upon the mutual agreement of the parties.
