Oh I'd love so much to have a great multi language analyzer! You don't
happen to release portions of the thing open source? I'm obligated to only
use open source software.

There was a recent blog post about Elasticsearch, Basis Technologies and
open source:
http://gibrown.wordpress.com/2014/02/10/elasticsearch-open-source-and-the-future/For
now, I am glad something exists to help with multilingual search.
Eventually the open source world will catch up, provided there are no
patents in the way. Patents are a far greater evil than closed-source
software.

BTW, do you use Marvel? That project is not open-source. (simply playing
the devil's advocate).

Cheers,

I like to think one day open source will catch up.... Patents scare me
more then they probably ought to.

No Marvel, can't run it because it is closed source. We monitor
Elasticsearch with Ganglia right now. We might more to Graphite but it is
a bit easier to use. Here is the Ganglia
instancehttp://ganglia.wikimedia.org/latest/?r=hour&cs=&ce=&m=es_query_time&s=by+name&c=Elasticsearch+cluster+eqiad&h=&host_regex=&max_graphs=0&tab=m&vn=&hide-hf=false&sh=2&z=small&hc=4
.

That actually uses a ganglia monitoring script I cobbled together which you
can read in our public puppet repository:
herehttp://git.wikimedia.org/blob/operations%2Fpuppet.git/c8382b75bf55597f6dc85573a338920dfbb9dcd1/modules%2Felasticsearch%2Ffiles%2Fganglia%2Felasticsearch_monitoring.py
.

We run Elasticsearch on the OpenJDK (works great despite what folks have
said) and if it didn't work we'd fix it so it would. We run it behind LVS
for sanity.

Everything else is open source:
Apache/Varnish/PHP/Memcached/MariaDB/Linux/Puppet/MediaWiki/on/and/on/and/on.
We're pretty adamant that open culture has to be powered by open source.

Getting back on topic (maybe) I liked your blog posts.

In my plugins

many multilingual algorithms are already there as open source, though
documentation is sparse.

The plugins are not complete and may not work as expected. Some training
tools and data sets for languages are there, some are missing, but could be
added. I uses these plugins for enhancing german text analysis in library
catalog search.

No patents, no risk, just all fun. Tools from the ASV Wortschatz team
http://wortschatz.uni-leipzig.de/~cbiemann/software/toolbox/ are under GPL,
so I released the decompound plugin under GPL too. Maybe redistribution of
ASV binary tree files is possible even under ASL, but I am no lawyer.
Reimplementation of a training CLI tool under ASL should be possible.

Of course, comments / pull requests / bug reports are welcome.

I use graphite to monitor Elasticsearch. It works quite well and it was not
too difficult to set up. I haven't used Ganglia in years, so I cannot
compare the two systems.

BTW, that blog is not mine. I am simply just a voracious reader of news and
that blog post came to mind when you mentioned open source.

Can I join the game? Nobody at Wikimedia uses a Mac or Winblows?

OK, sorry, couldn't resist, please carry on.

No Marvel, can't run it because it is closed source. We monitor
Elasticsearch with Ganglia right now. We might more to Graphite but it is
a bit easier to use. Here is the Ganglia instancehttp://ganglia.wikimedia.org/latest/?r=hour&cs=&ce=&m=es_query_time&s=by+name&c=Elasticsearch+cluster+eqiad&h=&host_regex=&max_graphs=0&tab=m&vn=&hide-hf=false&sh=2&z=small&hc=4
.

That actually uses a ganglia monitoring script I cobbled together which
you can read in our public puppet repository: herehttp://git.wikimedia.org/blob/operations%2Fpuppet.git/c8382b75bf55597f6dc85573a338920dfbb9dcd1/modules%2Felasticsearch%2Ffiles%2Fganglia%2Felasticsearch_monitoring.py

There was a recent blog post about Elasticsearch, Basis Technologies and
open source:

Eventually the open source world will catch up, provided there are no
patents in the way. Patents are a far greater evil than closed-source
software.

BTW, do you use Marvel? That project is not open-source. (simply playing
the devil's advocate).

Cheers,

Oh I'd love so much to have a great multi language analyzer! You don't
happen to release portions of the thing open source? I'm obligated to only
use open source software.

If anyone is looking to do multilingual search, take a look at this
