Cloudwatch vs Cloudwatch Logs input plugins

Hi everyone,

what is the difference between cloudwatch Logstash input plugin vs cloudwatch_logs input plugin written by Lukewaite (Link)?

My assumption is that the official cloudwatch input plugin is to scan and pull metrics, but cloudwatch_logs is used for scanning and pulling log streams.
