ERR Failed to publish events caused by: read tcp 172.16.1.2:46410->172.16.0.254:5044: i/o timeout

Hello,

I am getting the following error messages in Metricbeat:

2018/06/25 21:45:44.685001 async.go:235: ERR Failed to publish events caused by: read tcp 172.16.1.2:46410->172.16.0.254:5044: i/o timeout

I am running Logstash (v6.0.0) on a machine whose IP is 172.16.0.254. I am running Metricbeat (v6.0.0) on another machine whose IP is 172.16.1.2. From the Metricbeat machine, I am able to telnet 172.16.0.254 5044.

Machine 1 (172.16.0.254)

Here is my logstash-input-beats.conf:

input {
  beats {
    port => 5044
  }
}

output {
  elasticsearch {
    hosts => "localhost:9200"
    manage_template => false
    index => "%{[@metadata][beat]}-%{[@metadata][version]}-%{+YYYY.MM.dd}"
    document_type => "%{[@metadata][type]}"
  }
}

I am running Logstash like so (as root):

$ bin/logstash -f logstash-input-beats.conf

Machine 2 (172.16.1.2)

I am running Metricbeat like so (as root):

$ ./metricbeat -e -c metricbeat.yml

I'm wondering if I'm missing anything glaring, I've used pretty much the default configurations. I have also tried increasing the Logstash timeout in metricbeat.yml but that did not resolve the errors.

Here is my logstash.yml:

@mksavic There was a lot of issues that were fixed in the logstash beats input related to connection management; I think we should try to update the beats input plugin first and see if it fix your problem.

You can update the plugin using the following command:

bin/logstash-plugin update logstash-input-beats

Also, I think you should look at Logstash 6.3; there was a log of performance improvements that were done between 6.0 and 6.3.

Thanks, I will try that. I was hoping that v6.0 was a stable release. I'll follow up with any new issues.

@pierhugues Thanks so much, I upgraded the whole stack and everything works as it should. I'm hoping v6.3 is stable enough, as this is a project where we can't continuously upgrade the stack.
