hey ELK STACK community, please i've installed filebeat , and i wanted to install suricata module, so i've did install it, the problem is i don't get any information in kibana from suricata ? did i've missed something or what ?
Can you provide more details & steps ?
What about suricata module setup, espacially path to suricata log files ?
- module: suricata
eve:
enabled: true
var.paths: ["/my/path/suricata.json"]
Or did you set up suricata to send the logs using UDP. Please provide your configuration filebeat files? And what is your expectation? Are you sending the saracata logs to a file or are you sending them to a port?
What did the filebeat logs show? Are there any errors? Any relevant log lines to help debug? You can usually see if a module has started in the filebeat logs.
sorry for being late to reply ,well i'm working with 3 VM , the first one is a VM Server where i've installed Elasticsearch and kibana, the second VM is a windows client and the third is a linux client, for filebeat i've did the installation in my server , and then i've enabled suricata module.
for suricata module setup, i've did the configuration in the VM Server , but i've didn't mentionned the path , i've just change false to true !
PS:for the 3 VM they are in the same LAN , so i've tried winglobeat in the VM client "WIN" and it's working and show data on KIBANA "VM server" , i've configured packetbeat on both VM client and it works good!
the is my graduation project so i should do all the beats and shows data on kibana , well thanks in advance for your help

Or did you set up suricata to send the logs using UDP?
i really don't know how it works to be honest , what i've already known about suricata , collecting data from network, like and IDS

And what is your expectation?
my expectation is been able to receive logs from my VM clients " WINDOWS CLIENT & Linux CLIENT" and show them in kibana
i really don't know ? that's why i'm here just to know more information and make the configuration right
What did the filebeat logs show? Are there any errors? Any relevant log lines to help debug? You can usually see if a module has started in the filebeat logs.
when i start filebeat everything is good it works but in kibana i don't see logs from suricata even if i've changed the configuration of enabled from false to true in the suricata.yml without mentionned the path
Ok, then start by making sure that Suricata is installed and it's generating logs as you expect
Then filebeat (Suricata module) will only consume these logs, parse it and sent it to Kibana in ECS format
it doesn't work for me !! i don't know what i'm missing !! should i do something on the VM clients ?
Did you install actual suricata
And verify it is working?
Only after that can filebeat read the logs, we are not suricata experts here.
Perhaps you should visit their forum
ok thanks in advance
