How to use preference search on the elasticsearch input plugin?

I'm interested in the preference search to query by shard. Is there a way to do that in the elasticsearch input plugin?

In case that's not possible, I could simply edit the plugin and reinstall it? I presume it shouldn't be that hard of a fix if it's just a chance to the url for the request

You cannot do that with the plugin as it is now.
