Initializing variable in ruby logstash filter

Can I do multiple initialization in logstash ruby filter like below. For me it is giving error

  ruby
  {
         init => "@buffer = 377"
         init => "@buffer1 = 477"
         code => "

Why not just do this?

init => '
    @buffer = 377
    @buffer1 = 477
'
