Kafka logstash plugin getting failed connection logs

I am using the Kafka plugin for Logstash 5.4.1, my kafka instance is protected using a ssl keystore.

I looked at the logs, but other than the configuration getting loaded I don't see any attempts of connection from logstash to kafka, is there an special log where this happens? I even left log level of logstash at debug mode and still I don't see any attempted connections.

On the kafka end the admin of kafka says Logstash is not ever touching it.

Please let me know.
