Incorrect Authorization in Kibana Leading to Unauthorized Modification of Data

Incorrect Authorization (CWE-863) in Kibana can lead to unauthorized modification of data via Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs (CAPEC-1). An authenticated user holding only Security Solution read access in a Kibana space could enumerate and change the state of Entity Store maintainer tasks, silently disabling Entity Analytics maintenance for that space.

Affected Versions:

  • 9.x:
  • All versions from 9.4.0 up to and including 9.4.5
  • Version 9.5.0

Users on the 8.x release line are not affected. The Entity Store functionality that contains this vulnerability was introduced in the 9.4 release line and is not present in 8.x.

Affected Configurations:
All configurations are affected.

Solutions and Mitigations:

The issue is resolved in Kibana versions 9.4.6 and 9.5.1.

There are no workarounds for this vulnerability.
