Logstash diagram?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to understand relation between Logstash, Logstash client (logstash-forwarder) and other parts.

When I just dived into this I was sure that logstash forwarder reports to broker (for ex. redis) directly, it is obvious from this diagram or this one .

Then I found this diagram or this one which shows that actually logstash-forwarder reports to logstash and logstash it self puts data into broker.

So my question:
Is logstash client can report either to broker or to logstash directly?

That depends on what client you use, LSF cannot, but there are others out there that can.

Could you please share some client names which can post information directly to broker? Thank you

Logstash Courier is one of them, there may be others but I am not aware of them.
