Skew in Logstash ingestion

I have a pipeline:
a kafka cluster of 2 nodes (3 ZK nodes) -> 2 logstash nodes -> elastic cluster

I expected the 2 Logstash nodes to have almost equal load but the stats are very different from this expectation.
