Syslog filter configuration in logstash

Hello,

I'm trying to format my raw syslog data into elk using logstash but getting in error.

Failed to execute action {:action=>LogStash::PipelineAction::Create/pipeline_id:main, :exception=>"LogStash::ConfigurationError", :message=>"Expected one of #, => at line 35, column 12 (byte 1144) after output {\n elasticsearch {\n hosts => ["localhost:9200"]\n stdout ", :backtrace=>["/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/compiler.rb:41:in compile_imperative'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/compiler.rb:49:incompile_graph'", "/usr/share/logstash/llogstash-core/lib/logstash/compiler.rb:11:in block in compile_sources'", "org/jruby/RubyArray.java:2486:inmap'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/compiler.rb:10:incompile_sources'", "org/logstash/execution/AbstractPipelineExt.java:149:ininitialize'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/pipeline.rb:22:in initialize'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/pipeline.rb:90:ininitialize'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/pipeline_action/create.rb:38:in execute'", "/usr/share/logstash/logstash-core/lib/logstash/agent.rb:309:inblock in converge_state'"]}

filter {
if [type] == "syslog" {
    grok {
      match => { "message" => "%{SYSLOGTIMESTAMP:syslog_timestamp} %{SYSLOGHOST:syslog_hostname} %{DATA:syslog_program}(?:\[%{POSINT:syslog_pid}\])?: %{GREEDYDATA:syslog_message}" }
      add_field => [ "received_at", "%{@timestamp}" ]
      add_field => [ "received_from", "%{host}" ]
    }
    syslog_pri { }
    date {
      match => [ "syslog_timestamp", "MMM  d HH:mm:ss", "MMM dd HH:mm:ss" ]
    }
  }
}

Hi David,

The issue seems to be here:

What is your complete config?

Hi David,

The stdout section should be outside the elasticsearch output.

It will look like this:

output {
	elasticsearch {
		hosts => ["localhost:9200"]
	}
  	stdout { codec => rubydebug }
}
