Wrong argument type NilClass (expected IO)

The following error seems to be occurring in random in logstash.
I am not able to understand the issue. Could you please explain what does it mean?

logstash version: 5.2.0

[ERROR][logstash.filters.ruby ] Ruby exception occurred: wrong argument type NilClass (expected IO)

Do you have a ruby filter in your configuration? If so, show us the filter configuration.
